IS IT BENEFICIAL TO DO YOGA DURING PERIODS

Yoga has become an important part of the lifestyle of people who are fitness conscious and understand the benefits yoga brings in their lives. It is for everyone to practice, but yoga for woman has proved to be easing their bodily stress a great deal, especially while they are on periods.

Here we are going to confront and discuss the very question that arises often. Is it beneficial to do yoga during periods?

There has been a cultural and social stigma associated with Indian society with a menstruating woman. It is considered that they are not pure enough while they are menstruating and cannot be allowed in prayers, to enter in temples or to be a part of any religious activity.

Now, yoga has a religious aspect to it, and those who get influenced by this baseless stigma tend to think that yoga during periods should not be encouraged.

There are countless yoga schools and institutions that teach yoga but prohibit a woman from doing yoga while they are menstruating. However, it’s a myth and a baseless idea to associate a physical activity like yoga with cultural or religious beliefs.

Yoga is not only a physical but also a mental activity that frees the body and the mind from physical or mental stress and other dilemmas. And so, it needs to be encouraged even while a woman is on periods.

Here is how yoga can help you physically as well as mentally while you are menstruating-

  1. With the help of yoga hormonal imbalance and fertility-related issues which are rising in a woman due to obesity or a lethargic lifestyle can be prevented.
  2. Yoga helps you get over with the mentally draining symptoms like anxiety, stress and mood disorders that are commonly found in any woman having her periods.
  3. A woman goes under a lot of hormonal changes too, while menstruating or even while she is pregnant. Practicing Yoga reduces the effect of hormonal imbalances in such times.
  4. Yoga for a pregnant woman is as helpful for females who are on their periods. If you are pregnant, you need a good and peaceful sleep. Practising specific yoga postures and asanas can induce sleep and can improve the quality of sleep too.
Yoga is an ancient methodology and a science that has been practised through centuries. It stimulates good hormones in the human body and removes the toxins in the best natural way. Be it a menstruating or a pregnant woman yoga is for one and all.
